Following the acquisition by Sengüler & Sengüler of the Istanbul Office of Ledingham Chalmers in June 2004, Sengüler & Sengüler has grown its business to become one of the top local law firms in Turkey.
Jonathan W Blythe and Selçuk Sengüler were the firm’s founding partners bringing a unique blend of international, regional and local experience. Sadly in late 2017, Selçuk, a board member of ALFA International and loved by many members, lost a brave battle with brain cancer. Selçuk is greatly missed. However, in 2018, Selçuk’s wife, Gül Sengüler, a litigation lawyer, joined Jonathan and Nihan Yigit, the other partner at the time.
Over the last four years, the firm has grown, and the team has expanded to 16 plus fee earners. In addition to their considerable experience in the local market acting for a whole range of foreign investors, the firm has a proven track record in the CIS and the Balkans, representing several Turkish and International firms.
The firm aims to provide the highest quality local counsel services in a range of sectors, and over the years, have acted for many blue-chip multinationals and financial institutions.
The teams are divided into two main workstreams, corporate, projects and compliance headed by Nihan Yigit and contentious matters, disputes (litigation, debt collection, arbitration and mediation) and employment law advice and support lead by Gül Sengüler. Jonathan W Blythe assists with managing the firm and providing insight to the teams in several areas of cross-border issues. Jonathan also sits as an arbitrator in ICC cases and leads some team members as counsel in investment treaty matters.
The firm has a small office in Ankara, Turkey’s capital, which serves clients who deal with Central Government and the public sector.
Sengüler & Sengüler provides legal services in both English and Turkish, advising clients across a broad spectrum of industries, including Oil And Gas, Tourism and Leisure, Telecommunications, Construction, Airlines, and Information Technology.
