Higgins, Cavanagh & Cooney LLP (HCC) was established in 1951 when James H. Higgins, Jr., and Joseph V. Cavanagh joined their law practices. They were joined in 1962 by John P. Cooney, who had retired as Chief Judge of the Providence District Court. Together these three former presidents of the Rhode Island Bar Association founded an organization that today has grown to rank as one of the largest litigation firms in the state of Rhode Island.
