GENERAL

The ALFA International Transportation Practice Group (the "Group") is one of the oldest and largest of the ALFA International Practice Groups. Founded in 1991, the Group is comprised of over 70 member law firms and over 200 active lawyers across the United States and Canada. The Group is particularly well-known for the high degree of coordination among its members and clients, and for the size and scope of its client seminars. The Group’s active national network of experienced lawyers is tailor-made for local, regional and national transportation companies whose trucks, charter or tour buses, railcars, or other vehicles traverse the country.

“GO TEAM” SERVICE

The ALFA International GO TEAM Manual is a reference CD identifying all the rapid-response team information you need following an accident.  Any carrier needing immediate legal support following an accident, or other incident, who does not have the GO TEAM Manual readily available can call the ALFA GO TEAM Hotline at 1-888-520-ALFA (2532) and an operator will provide location-specific contact information for experienced ALFA International transportation attorneys, accident reconstructionists, and other transportation industry experts.  When you contact the Hotline, you will be connected to a full-service emergency response team, where you need it and when you need it, anywhere in the United States and in the major provinces of Canada, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

FOCUS

The Group provides legal services to virtually any common or private carrier. ALFA International firms represent companies who transport goods by truck, rail, plane, and boat. The Group also represents passenger companies and a wide variety of companies that use commercial vehicles. Many clients carry third-party insurance while others are self-insured. In addition to serving transportation companies, the Group also represents transportation equipment manufacturers, transportation insurers, and third-party administrators. Lawyers within the Group have the experience to handle the entire spectrum of legal issues confronted by transportation companies, including the following:

  • General litigation
  • Property and casualty
  • Personal injuries
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Environmental/HAZMAT
  • Lobbying
  • Labor and employment
  • Trade associations
  • Corporate/business law
  • Criminal defense
  • Risk management and insurance

ACTIVITIES

The Group organizes or participates in a wide range of activities. An annual invitation-only seminar is held every spring, alternating between the eastern and western regions of the United States. These seminars are supplemented by periodic tele-seminars that allow ALFA International clients and lawyers to dial an 800 number and participate in focused 90-minute presentations on timely transportation law topics. The Group also maintains a "speakers bureau" to provide clients, trade associations, and other groups with experienced ALFA International lawyers for their meetings and programs. Virtually all of the Group’s attorneys actively participate in key industry trade groups like the American Trucking Association, the National Tank Truck Carriers, the American Bar Association’s Transportation Section, and the Defense Research Institute.
